Building Sustainable Communities in Ohio’s Shale Region
NEFCO collaborated with The Ohio State University Extension and three other Economic Development Districts that represent the eastern Ohio shale region, in June 2015, on a strategy that addresses the need for economic sustainability. The goal of the strategy was to position a 25-county shale region to more effectively weather the boom-bust cycle of the development of shale energy. The strategy identified manufacturers with the potential to benefit from shale development and diversify the regional economy. The team surveyed companies within the NEFCO region engaged in rubber and plastics manufacturing and in basic and agricultural chemical manufacturing.
